Reptile Collecting Trip 2
May 11 en route China Lake, Kern Co, Calif.
The ground is moist. Just barely
sprinkling.
May 12 China Lake, Kern + San Bernardino Co., Calif.
Spent the night at Bob and Kristine
Berry's place at China Lake last night
went out to Kristine's study area
at Long Butte in the southern end of
the Argus Range just inside San Bernar-
dino Co. RCS and Kristine spent the
morning observing behavior from one
of the lookouts while I hiked over the
ridge to hunt reptiles. My luck was
very poor. From 0900 - 1230 all I was
R 1390-1391 able to capture was 2 Cnemidophorus tigris
1392-1396 and 5 Uta stansburiana. I observed
1 large chuck which I did not attempt to
collect as it was not far from the
edge of the study area. I saw two
collard lizards and numerous Uta
which I was unable to capture. I
worked the lower slope of the ridge and
did not get down onto the flats. Creosote
looks very lush here now and is in bloom.
The slope was North facing and was
around 30°.
