Ruth, Stephen 1971 Reptile Collecting Trip Berkeley en Route China Lake, Kern Co., Calif. May 11 1300 Left Berkeley with RCS on trip times annual 165 and 107 trip to the desert daylight for reptiles. Partly cloudy skies as saving time we left 1750 Entering Bakersfield. Skies have been overcast all the way down. Few clear patches. Windy gusty at times. Hopefully the weather will clear up starting tomorrow so that we will have good collecting. Quite warm though- sort of a "thundershower feeling?" According to a service station attendant in Bakersfield it's been windy, cold and rainy for about 2 weeks. He feels that it will be quite blustery in the desert. It was quite nice yesterday and the present overcast just came up today. 1905 Headed into Tehachapi pass area. Going straight into storm-laden skies frequent electrical discharges. Then a deluge and stop-spotty must be thunder heads. Visibility almost nil at times. Hail! Much of the lightening jumping from cloud to cloud. By Hart Flat we are out of the rain and the pavement is dry.
