rapidly moving toward the water
attempting to escape. They are rapid
moving and one has to be quick to
box them in and block their route
to the open water. Six more Rhyacotriton
were found beyond this point in the
space of about a half an hour. All
were found in fine talus at water level
beside the stream within about 2 or
three inches of the rapidly flowing
stream. One large larva Rhyacotriton
was found. It had a very large
laterally flattened tail and gills. I have
been carefully looking on moss covered
rocks and logs in the splash zone for
exposed salamanders but I have not
seen any. Another Ambystoma flavipunctatum
was uncovered at the waters
edge but it escaped down a hole
in the bank. While working up the
creek I have been concentrating on
the right hand side of the creek.
coming back down I concentrate on
the left side. I found several more
Rhyacotriton but as I have enough I
did not bother collecting them. Bessie
found a Hyla regilla hopping about
in the dry grass about 50 feet
