Hauken, James 1975 Journal Mexico Trip Del Rio to Benten-Rio Grande Valley State Park 27 April was overcast but warm. From here we 2300 hrs continued on to the State Park and Goat Denes. (cont'd) After dark the four of us visited an apparently man-made temporary cattle sink adjacent to the canal. The water egg pond is almost several hundred yards wide and at least 75 yards in width. We had noticed frogs in at the water's edge during daylight and returned to capture some. Two frog species were present: Rana berlandieri - 26 captured in all, most metamorphosing juveniles, all but one found above the grassy water's edge (vs. the Rana fortaclytic tadpoles; Bufo calices - 2 adults caught at water's edge and one Bufo marinus. In addition Sam caught two Natrix rhombifera at in the water, and the Green's caught two Forstria occipitomaculata one on dry land 6' from the water's edge, the other in the grass suspended above water at the edge. Upon returning to our campsite, we found an additional two Bufo caliceps (#80 + 81; 2 Rana are # 82 + 83).
