Mexico trip
best area along I-35, ~15 mi. N Laredo, Texas
26 April Hwy 90 in Del Rio where we collected one
Cnemidophorus gularis. After buying
supplies and lunch in Del Rio
we headed S on Hwy 90 towards Laredo.
We stopped along Sycamore Cr. at the
S edge of Val Verde Co to search the broad,
calcareous rocky creek bed and adjacent
brush & scrubby vegetation.
Cnemidophorus sp., Sceloporus sp.
and Cophosaurus (Halbrookia) texana were
found but none were collected. Allen
Greer did collect one Thamnophis proximus
beneath a rock adjacent to a small
stream feeding the creek. Continuing S on
Hwy 90 into late afternoon several live
+ DDR Phrynosoma cornutum were found
on or alongside the road, as were DDR
Crotalus atrox, T. proximus, & Mastigodryis
foeniatius. In the evening a live C. atrop
was seen and accidentally hit by car on
Hwy Int 35 ~20 mi. N of Laredo. This
latter snake, the live Phrynosoma, and any
salvageable DDR specimens were collected.
