Hanken, James 1975 Journal 15 April Hastings Reservation, Carmel Valley, Monterey Co, Calif. This morning Col. Walt Koenig and I looked for larvae in the Blomquist Pond on Hauptach Hill. No larvae were attracted towards our lights, and none were found by dip-netting along the edge among the reeds. This was made difficult by the steep banks, deep slippery mud, and thick reeds at water's edge. Several adult Rana aurora were found observed, in addition to red-winged blackbirds and mallards. This afternoon I returned to the pond to dip-net again. No Ambystoma larvae were found during my visit (at least two hours) although Hyla tadpoles were abundant and Taricha egg clusters were found. Possibly the larvae (if present) are out in the deeper portions of the pond or on the other side of the reeds where I could not reach. Tomorrow morning I will visit a pond on the Los Tulareitos Ranch; adult Ambystoma have been found nearly in the garden of the ranch house, possibly moving towards that pond. 17 April Yesterday Stoppe Between 0900-1000 hrs visited locality 4.3 mi.
