Hanken, James 1978 Journal Trip to Mexico City, Mexico 9-12 July Mexico City. I flew back to Berkeley on 12 July, leaving Brad for his rendezvous with Louise Whitaker. Restaurant Colon, Tlaxiaco, Est. Oaxaca, Mexico 5 December I arrived here this morning with Tom Hetherington after camping along the highway ~30 mi N of Toron last night. We are here to collect Torres in what will hopefully be the last field trip required for my electrophoretic work. We arrived in Mexico City early AM, 3 Dec. and spent the rest of the day sightseeing. We stayed over in the apartment of a friend of Gary Dodge's that night, and yesterday morning submitted an application at the permit office and filled the dilution tanks before driving to Oaxaca. Only things of note were the cactus forests along the highway SE of Iztacalco de Matamoros, and seeing a sulfur-crested motmot before Acatlan. Hotel Mansion Imperial, Oaxaca, Est. Oaxaca, Mexico 6 December Yesterday Tom and I collected salamanders outside of Tlaxiaco, in the mountains SE of Toron in the direction of the town of San Miguel El Grande (see map below). The road first climbs out of Tlaxiaco, then drops to a river crossing, then climbs steeply to tall mountains
