N slope of Cerro Pelon, Et Oaxaca, Mexico
8 July Brad and I stopped at several localities below the top of Cerro Pelon to get more of the two cloud forest species from old and new localities. We began at the 52 Km N Ocelotso locality where we found T.sp "gold" abundant both under rocks beside the road and in the adjacent forest. Additional specimens of the T.sp "cloud" were also taken (to be confirmed by electrophoresis). In one instance, one of each species were found coiled together beneath a log. Both P. jiraveyi and P. "lumpy" were also found in the roadcut and beneath roadside rocks. We next stopped at the 54 Km N Ocel locality and found 3 additional thoris (see color notes). Between here and the 65 Km N Ocel locality we worked a new locality and found one additional thoris, 2 P. jiraveyi, and an Chiloboa. At this locality a footpath leads into from the forest from the at it (when driving N) and is a relatively level and easily traversed entrance into the intact forest. The salts were found by turning small branches and shaking bromeliads on the ground in the forest.
