vicinity of Totontepec (out of Villa), Oaxaca, Mexico
3-4 July After eating dinner in Totontepec we returned
last night and worked several streams
(2200-2650 m)
between 3.2-11.4 mi SW of Totontepec for aquatic
pseudos. We saw none, but even if they occur
here I doubt that we would have seen them
as the streams were full rushing, and difficult
to work. Our last stop was 11.4 mi W Totontepec
where we worked the roadcut for pseudos.
The animals were out in the constant downpour
and we collected 7 animals, 6 apparently
P. "lumpy", and 1 other more slender species.
This morning the rain continued heavily and
we worked again for thoreis. None were
found, but more pseudos were common.
They were most readily found in a recently
cut forest area above the road cut of
last night. This is most easily reached by
walking down to a few abandoned houses
~100' from the locality. There, across the road
a broad dirt path leads directly to the
cut area. Pseudos were found most commonly by
peeling back of fallen logs. Several were often
found together, and as adults and juveniles
were taken. Here most animals seemed of the
more slender species with only 1 or 2 "lumpy's".
We stopped at one more locality at ~1 mile
SW of this place (2540 m), where the road crosses
