attempt to visit Santo Tomas Teipan, Oaxaca, Mexico
30 June-1 July terista in myself made us decide to return to
Oaxaca that morning. By Santo Tomas Teipan
is apparently a dry season locality
10 miles W of San Vicente Lachigiro
2 July My aforementioned case of terista blossomed
sweetly upon our return to Oaxaca, and
we thought it best that I stay in " today
and recover while Brad visited San Vicente
alone. He had poor luck, collecting only
4 animals where 2 years ago Walz, Lynch,
etc. collected over 60. What gives? He
said that the locality is good for salamander
collecting: abundant fallen logs, bark,
etc, as a result of lumbering. Also,
the road is OK. He did get 4 lizards
(similar to those from W of Teapila), a couple
of Gerrhonotus (Barine?) snakes, and several
snakes, and a shrew. See his notes for
details.
3-4 July vicinity of Toltepec (out of Milla), Oaxaca, Mexico
We left yesterday to visit several localities supplied
by Jonathan Campbell of U of Texas where he,
last April, collected thorns and seeds,
including an aquatic fern. One gets there by
taking the Pan-American Highway (Mex 13) out of Oaxaca
