Hotel Ruiz, Oaxaca, Oaxaca, Mexico
27 June presumably the same as Wake & Lynch's
locality of 25.4 Km W. Zaachila is reached by
a paved road SW out of Oaxaca (~ 20 miles)
and the road W out of town Zaachila leaves
the paved road by a gas station at the N end
of town. The road is graded dirt, generally
easily passable but for a few rough spots;
but we traversed it in Brad's Station
station wagon. The road, however, is slow, and
the drive from the locality to Zaachila to the
locality takes ~ 90 minutes. The forest at the
locality is mostly mature and second growth
oak, with some madrona and pine. Evidence
of recent cutting is seen in the abundant stumps,
fallen logs, and piles of wood chips. All of
the logs collected today were found by
turning & rolling logs and other debris in the
oak forest. An adjacent pine stand held
nothing, although earlier I found a P. belli
under a fallen pine log in a remnant
small cluster of pine on a steep slope in a
small village ~ 1 mile farther along the
road. Electrophoretically, these two Thorius sp.
seem closest to those on C. San Felipe. The
habitat here is most reminiscent of the 7 Km
W La Lumbre locality, although the adjacent
pines resemble more higher-up on the Cerro.
