11 Sept Hotel Tabarlin San Jose' Prov. De San Jose', Costa Rica
decided to return to San Jose.
Today, I made an ill-fated attempt
to get to Chirripo by bus. Arriving at the
Cartago bus station at ~ 8 AM I was told
that the next bus to Chirripo was at 1 PM.
I decided to return to San Jose', but
stopped along the way at Tres Rios to
gole around in any available habitat.
Little of this exists, as most of the land is
occupied by either fenced-in homes + gardens
or coffee hillsides planted to coffee. The
latter might be productive but I doubt
it as the coffee fields differ from those which
I've seen in Mexico in that here almost
all trees other than coffee + banana (for shade)
have been removed and there is little
litter apparent. I did turn garbage and
rotting vegetation in a vacant lot
along the Pan Am Highway just E of town
and collected two snakes under brush.
I returned to San Jose', ate breakfast, and
re-tooled for a trip by bus to Turrialba which
Once the I reached at ~ 12 Noon. I walked
back from the bus station towards San Jose'
where the road begins a steep ascent and there
followed a stream through a partially
cleared hillside turning any available cover.
