Hauken, James 1977 Journal Flor-Mas Super Soda, Monteverde; Prov. Puntarenas, Costa Rica 8 Sept ground is unseasonably dry. Often the substrate helocology is essentially dry. We found no sals but were given a clutch of B. holmsta by Thomas Gruendor (Walt's nephew) who had discovered it a few days earlier while clearing a field for grass. He showed me the log when the sal had been found and replaced, but it was no longer there. The log was ~ 1' wide and 3-4' long at the edge of a clearing adjacent to mature forest (2nd growth?) W of Walt's house. While looking we also collected a Geophis, Anolis, and two Eleutherodactylus. We then moved on to the park where we proceeded to wander almost aimlessly on trails for several hours. Besides the rain forest itself, a highlight was finding a troop of white-faced monkeys in Chorogo Swamp. We returned to the Super Soda at ~ 3:30. At ~ dusk Carla set one mist net along the road to San Luis ~100 m. N of the Super Soda. One bat was collected even as she set the net. Five more were collected in the next two hours before they hung-up". An additional two were found in the net this morning. See her catalogue for ID.
