Green Turtle Station, Tortuguero, Costa Rica
27 August attempts at the Boca. So far I've caught just
one small jack. Yesterday John Moore and
I walked through the forest behind the
fishing camp. I collected dendrobates
pumilio was common and I collected ~15
for freezing. I also caught one Sphoeroides
lineatus. We found a slow, muddy,
meandering stream 5 of the lodge which
habored a river otter. John had a
better look than I and he is certain it
was an otter. The forest behind the
lodge is quite impressive for both its
accessibility and intactness, frog-eyes and
still contains other impressive wildlife
beside the otter, e.g. Karen and Lynn
yesterday afternoon saw a tapacurrua (paca)
and a trogon beside the little cove 5 of
the lodge. Several of the small ponds (or
large puddles) in the forest which are usually
flooded at this time were only damp and
I tried for caecilians but found none.
Today, a few of us are going over to the
cave near Turtle Mt. which is said to
home rats, lizards, snakes, peccaries, etc.
