27 July
6 Aug (cont'd) We took the main toll road to Mexico City and
(cont'd) another toll road, Mex 95D, S to Chignola
and then Mex 95 to Chilpancingo. One can easily
see how there can be a different Thorius in western
Guerrero as the mtms on either side of Hwy 95
are separated by land w/ elevations never,
if at all, exceeding 5000' elevation with quite
mesic xeric vegetation of scrubby oak, arganize
cactus and chaparral shrubs. Presumably the
high mountains to the N are isolated as well,
as Thorius has never been taken there. Upon
arriving in Chilpancingo we checked
at the Motel San Antonio for Ted Rozenfuss
who is supposed to meet us on 30 July and
he was not there.
28-29 July: Doug and I took a two-day
sightseeing trip to the Acapulco area while
waiting for Ted to show. The road S of
Chilpancingo reaches ~4500 elevation before
beginning a steady drop to the Pacific Coast.
The scrubby pine forest is present on the
S slope of the rise just S of Chilpancingo
but seems too dry for Thorius and too.
We stayed overnight at the Acapulco
Trailer Park in Pie de la Cresta just outside
of Acapulco. Returning to Guerrero on 29 July
