Hauken, James 1975 Journal 27 March Harris Beach State Park, Curry County, Oregon Sspent morning of 25 March unsuccessfully looking for a good site ~NE of North Bend, Oregon to walk for Plethodon vehiculum (if its range does extend that far south). No good seeps or stream access were found, so after a short stop at Oregon Dunes Nat'l Recreation Area Sally and I continued S on Hwy 101 to Bandon where we took Hwy 42 towards Coquille, Coos Bay where we turned E then Eastside and towards Allegany along the Coos River Rd. Locality 8 7.5 mi E of the Eastside P.O. We worked a S-facing ravine intersecting the road across from the Coos River. The dominant tree was Umbellularia california, but otherwise resembled locality 7 in terms of cover, understory, moisture etc. Two more striped Plethodon (glenii?) were soon found in the interior of a log as was an Eurycea. No other salamanders found for another hour when 2 more adult Plethodon and 3 juveniles were found under the bark of a fallen rotting bay tree. Ventral speckling is finer than those from locality 7 but not qualitatively different. Time of observation 1130- 1300 hrs. We returned to Hwy 101 S to Bandon, then headed E on Hwy 42 S towards Coquille.
