25 July Been in January in the "Dry" season.
(cont'd) 25 July - No collecting !! Day of Rest —
26 July Doug and I visited Roy McDiarmid's localities
on either side of Huatusco where he collected
one or two Thelma several years ago. One
locality is 4 3/4 mi SW (Huatusco), the other
~1 mi NE. Both localities are pastoral-looking
areas w/scattered large oak trees scattered
among lush green grass used for grazing
cattle. It reminds one of the inner-coast
ranges in Napa or Mendocino Co's but that generally
disappear when you look more closely and see
the abundant bromeliad on the trees and
that realize that these areas have
been previously cleared from denser forest as
is present nearby. We spent 1/2 hr
looking at each locality and found no
amphibians whatsoever, the ground feeling
relatively dry compared to the Cuallapan
area. We did find a few Sceloporus, one
Scincella, and several small slender
snakes w/dark ground color and a yellow
neck ring. This is compared to McDiarmid's
taking only amphibian when he collected
here. From Huatusco we continued on
