25 July We stopped at two localities W of Maclin)
(cont'd) the first a cleared hillside at 7900', with adjacent wet
oak-pine-madrono forest. Here we collected
2 Pseudoeurycea belli, 8 Eumeces and 7 snakes
by turning rocks in the clear clearing, and
3 Sceloporus in the forest. No Thorius were
found. Closer to Maclin we stopped at 8540 ft.
in wet pine-oak forest and took Thorius (apparently
all the small species from Llano de las Flores)
under rocks and logs and one was mystry
Pseudoeurycea under leaves on a fallen log.
We finished off the day in the rain on top
of Cerro Pelon, getting ten Thorius there and
2 at 1 km N Cerro Pelon, the latter two of a
different species.
22 July - Doug and I worked numerous
localities from the vicinity of the top of Cerro
Pelon to Vista Hermosa. We had better

getting Thorius in greater numbers as well
as Pseudoeurycea in several places (see
catalogue). We also saw a coatimundi

of the road. No Pseudoeurycea or Thorius were
taken from the cloud forest area. From
Vista Hermosa we drove on to Tuxtepec to spend
