25 July and used Maquiltianguis as a reference locality
(cont'd) because it was the largest town in the vicinity,
possibly along the main route to Oaxaca City
from Cerro Pelon. We proceeded to loop back
to Machin via the town of Comaltepec on
a relatively good dirt road which was being
repaired while we traveled on it . From
Comaltepec there is a road leading towards
Santos Reyes Papalo into another ridge.
We tried taking this road but couldn't get
more than a couple miles because of a
flood-swollen stream which crossed the
road. This would be a good road to take in
the dry season as it would allow entry to
area localities upstream between Cerro
Pelon and Santos Reyes Papalo to the NW.
