Hotel Primavera, Oaxaca, Est. Oaxaca, Mexico
18 July is cutting trees for making charcoal. The slope
uphill and facing the front and facing the road
at this point was relatively drier than the
slope on the other side of the crest of the slope
which had moss growing conspicuously on the cacti
which were the dominant tree. Epiphytes,
especially bromeliads, were abundant. We
worked this locality for over 2-2½ hrs and
yet found only one Thorius (found by Julie Feder
under a piece of bark in the drier slope) and
two P. cochranae. Martin found an attractively
colored snake (dark ground color with yellow
dorsolateral stripes) inside a rolling (cactus?)
and Jim Lynch found a juvenile Abronia
mixteca inside a bromeliad on a relatively
exposed tree on the ridge. Several Sceloporus
were also taken.
Restaurant at El Machin, Est. Oaxaca, Mexico
19 July After doing some errands in Oaxaca in the AM
Bongand I left Navo Mex Hwy 175 for Vacery.
Dimplan is to spend three days collecting
between Cerro San Felipe and Vista Hermosa
to pinpoint the ranges of the various Thorius
species in this region. We visited one locality
N of Cerro San Felipe before dropping down to the
river just S of Ocelotao. This locality was 17.4 mi.
