18 July This AM Martin Julie Feder, Dave Wake, Jim Lynch,
Doug Eakins, and myself attempted to get
to Asuncion Mixtepec in the Sierra de los Cuatro
Venados, an important locality for
Pseudoeurycea and Thorius visited by
Charles Bogert. Driving S on Mex Hwy 131
out of Oaxaca we turned W on to a dirt road

bridge a few km of the town of Val de Flores.
We proceeded only a few km when we came
to a river crossing which we decided not to try

crossing the swollen stream. It hasn't rained
in 3 days and yet passage is still restricted
at this point: obviously early in the dry season

climbed steeply out of the Oaxaca valley to
elevations just under 8000' before the road
drops down again to the NW. The wood habitat
at this point is more of the usual pine-oak
situation, much of it being second growth
as one of the main livelihoods in this region
