Hawken, James 1975 Journal 24 March Bayshore Motel, Coos Bay, Coos County, Oregon falling continuously for the last ten days. for 24 March had 4.5 inches alone. He indicated that while this much rain isn't uncommon, it usually falls in January or December & i.e. late season. Weather reports predict clearing tomorrow. Finally had the car repaired at Eugene after the SAAB dealer in Corvallis was found to be without the necessary spare parts. Set out at ~1300 hrs from Eugene towards the coast along Rte 126. ~ 6.5 mi W of the Walton P.O. we turned S along the road bordering Siuslaw Ck. After 1.6 mi we turned W across the Siuslaw R. on the Whittaker Creek Recreation Area Access Rd for ~.2 mi. Locality 6 While coming to the Whittaker Cr. Recreation Area. Here we walked the N-facing slope S of the creek which is primarily brush-forested with a few Douglas firs and many ferns. Despite the abundance of several moss-covered rotten logs at the lower edge of the slope, no seals were found. Logs and rocks were turned, logs opened, but each peeled away and still no mammals were found. Hyla regilla were heard calling from the stream which was quite flooded, but none were obtained. Time of obs. 1400-1530 hrs.
