Hotel Porega, Pachuca, Est. Hidalgo, Mexico
10 July and we found only a few Saloporus and
slugs (Sincella) under rocks but did find
two salamanders, possibly Pseudoeurycea galanae.
Doug found one under a rock at the base of a
tree while I found one on the surface of a rock
under some wet moss. We turned at least
a hundred other rocks which seemed suitable
for sals but found no others. We left
Ciudad del Maiz for Mex Hwy 57 and
continued onto Mexico City via Queretaro
(including a rather intense thunder storm)
and arrived at the Hotel de Carlo at 4AM
Hotel Quinta Chilla, Tamazunchale, Est. San Luis
Potosi, Mexico
11 July Doug Edkins and I drove from Pachuca to Tango
Tamazunchale via Mex Hwy 85 yesterday
stopping to look for Chiropetracon in caves
in the town of Durango. Approaching Durango
from the SW one passes through rather steep
pine-covered pine + oak- covered slopes at levels
off of greater than 700'. Durango itself lies in
a basin with extensive limestone outcrops.
We did not stop en route to Durango although
the forests SW of town seem suitable habitat
for sals, but instead tried to look for caves in town.
