14 Feb February 14 Feb: We drove SE from Oaxaca to Diag Ordoz,
where we took the dirt road N to Cuajimoloyas
ascending rapidly from the dry, desert-like
valley through scrub oak to high elevation
pine forest. The road is quite drivable in a
conventional vehicle to Cuajimoloyas although
it deteriorates a bit beyond Cuajimoloya.
We just worked a pine forest just beyond town,
but it was dry and produced no leaves.
Two successful localities were found further
along the dirt road on relatively moist, shaded,
frosted slopes with abundant fallen logs.
Only Thorius were taken; these in two usual
places under bark and fallen logs in the frosts
of pine with some oak and madrone.
15 Feb: We drove N from Oaxaca along Mex
Hwy 150 -> Mex Hwy 131 and on to San Juan
Bautista Cuicatlan where we took the dirt
road to NE to Santos Reyes Pajalo (see map).
This excursion was reminiscent of that of 14 Feb
except that we had just dropped to an elevation
of ~650m. after leaving Oaxaca and approaching
Cuicatlán. The road S of Cuicatlan passes
through a deep cactus-laden canyon which
is one of the most beautiful places I have
seen in all of Mexico, broadening to an
