12 February of Wade, Lynne, and Pat which is 9 km from La
Cumbre. We later found two species of Thorius
sympatric. This latter locality proved to be
~ 0.5 km farther along the road, but we didn't
work it. The ravine which we worked was
almost all oak, with pines becoming abundant
dominant as one approached the ridges on either side.
Only a few Thorius, apparently of
one morph, were taken.
#4 - 15 km from La Cumbre
- This is the reversed P. smithii locality of
Wade, etc. It has scattered tall pines
with abundant fallen logs. Although several
logs were nearly dry, P. smithii proved to be
abundant, especially under bark on large,
fallen logs (One log I worked contained
~ 30-40 P. smithii) juveniles were by far
the most numerous. Thorius were found in
slightly moister conditions under oak and
logs, etc. Can the P. smithii be excluding
Thorius because of their great numbers?
Apparently, it's not absolute as in at least
one or two instances Thorius was taken
with juvenile P. smithii under the same
log or bark. Brad also found one
