31 Jan (cont'd) Distinguishing markings of white spots on a black
ventral ground color with white flecking on the
chin and lower sides. Dorsal coloration was a
non-descript brown. It was found by Brad
under a moss-covered piece of bark on a dead
log ~ 4' above the ground. The other specimen,
M2832, presumably Thorius was found (inside
a rotting log). We then decided to stem down
the mountains on the assumption of Carlos that
De Arms of places with more Thorius. We then
worked a large area both on the lower slopes
of Cerro Chichinuatla and across the ravine to
the N in the area about the house of Victor Solano
and Casa de Sencen. We concentrated primarily
in disturbed areas grown to coffee with bananas
for shade and often orange trees at elevations
ranging from 1000-1150 m, in these 2 1/2 - 3 days
we found 3 Lineatriton lineola (under rocks),
16 Bolitoglossa rufescens (9 in banana leafaxils,
one found by me in a rotting log in a cut-over
area was grown to thickets at 1150 m,) and Carlos
found one Thorius under a rock at 1100 m. No
snakes, lizards, or adult frogs were seen
today by anyone.
