Whether the ranchland was once as lush as the remaining forest I can't say, but Mrs. Jantzen attests that it was all forested no more than 40-60 years ago. It was quite crushed and the viscera evicted, but I will try to preserve it as a specimen. 26 August 7PM - last night drove a few km S of El Valle along the main highway to walk along road cuts. There are some relatively high road cuts (>20') well exposed rock and overgrown with vegetation, often with water seeping out, but no salamanders were found.
