Hawken, James 1975 Journal Pension Udean El Hato del Udean, Chiriqui Province Panama 24 August remaining stands of original forest, mature trees remaining only in the vicinity of Barre or along fence rows, Banana groves are evident throughout the area, from large plantation-size stands to small plots in peoples' yards. I was able to enter several of these groves around Progoso, and look under fallen limbs and feel away leaves on standing trees, but no salamanders were found. I did, though, in this manner find two frogs, both Lysids. One, #P84, in the slight concavity where a banana leaf comes out from the trunk ~1' high; the other was found #P85 clinging to a trunk ~4' high. The former locate 30m was along the main highway E of Progreso, the to this latter on a side road N & S running from town. Few fallen, decaying logs could be found to examine. Few large logs were found along a fence row at the edge of a large cleared field (for growing rice?) along a side road running SW to the main highway ~2 km E of Progreso. These logs were looked for at least 1/2 hour and all that was found besides ants and termites was the small frog (possibly e Bufo) #P85,
