Hankau, James 1975 Journal 28 Feb Hastings Reservation, Camel Valley, Monterey Co. Calif. reservation (e.g. Blomquist Pond)? The newts at Briones Park, Contra Costa Co., are already breeding. Blomquist Pond will be checked for adults and larvae in a few weeks. There has been essentially no rain here since my last visit and most of the days have been sunny + warm. The ground has been drying out once again, but some one Eucaimia + Anisodes were found under moist logs today. The warm sunny weather has brought out the liguids, with Uta, Sceloporus, and Cureses found active today. Hyla was heard calling last night and tonight, as well as during daylight today. They seem to be present in all habitats as long as the streams are running (as are all three, except for some parts of Big r. above Long Field). Hyla eggs were found in the Lower Barn and Long Field Water Troughs. Tadpoles at near limb-bud stage were found also in the former. Spring appears to be coming early this year, with several new species of wildflowers in bloom since my last visit, and what appears to be this year's young of Eifellus berrugi.
