23 August 8AM Beginning with last night's notes I will
be using ball-point ink, as my rapidograph is
almost out and I discovered that the cleaning
lady at the Hotel Paramonte must have thrown it
out as it never made it back into my belongings.
Yesterday AM I walked the slope opposite the
one I walked yesterday, along the dirt road
leading to W from Cerro Punta (the mountain)
towards Cerro Picaels, I couldn't see how
far the road leads as I walked little more
than a km, but it appears as though it
might end (for autos at least) where the
river forks ~1km further W. No trail could
be seen leading up Cerro Picaels, A jeep
trail led up the slope which I walked,
passing through the cleared lower slopes and
then continuing on along a ridge through wooded
deep ravines. There is a rounded peak at ~
2300 meters, but to the N the mountain keeps
ascending reaching the Continental Divide
at ~2400 m, less than in 1 km (air line distance)
Opposing the lower peak the lower
peak much of the relatively level land has
been cleared for cattle grazing. There is an
abundance of fallen often charred logs, and
