Panama - Cerro Pando area; Panama City
Audubon Society Cabin along road to Cerro Punta,
Nueva Suiza, Chiriqui Province, Panama
13 August this site at ~2:30 PM and continued to look
for other possible sites. However, after driving 20
km (dirt road) past Cerro Pando we were at
an elevation of ~1200m and still dropping
and decided to return to Nueva Suiza. At
this furthest point the road was still paved
and two lanes wide and most of the lower
level slopes were cut over for agricultural
purposes.
Hotel Parador, Panama City, Panama Province, Panama
14 August 5PM Jim Lynch and I left Cerro Punta this
morning at ~7 AM and arrived here just a short
while ago. Tomorrow AM Jim leaves to join Dave
Webb and Martin Feder in Guatemala while I
will try to acquire a Land Rover from STRI
or another rental car and return to the
Chiriqui area. The weather this AM in Cerro
Punta was the best we'd seen yet with
clear, sunny skies. Volcan Chiriqui could
clearly be seen to two peaks from the W and
we were likely to get a few photos.
White-tailed kites (Elanus leucurus) were extremely common once we
entered the Pacific lowlands, as were yellow-headed
caracaras (Milvago chimachima) which were often seen
