Haukar, James 1975 Journal 9 Feb Hastings Reservation, Carmel Valley, Monterey Co., Calif. of Hyla. We stopped at one 1.3 mi. W of the res. and collected 6 frogs, including an amplect pair. Other keys found on the road included Ensatina, several Bufo larvae, and more Hyla. No Taricha were observed. This AM we worked Poison Oak Hill N of P.O.Ridge, W of the lower pond, and E of the Main gate. Several sals were found, (this area, while still moist oak-madrona forest, seemed more open with less ground cover) and two apparently hibernating Cortina tenuis were found under logs on P.O. Ridge. Jim Griffin reported seeing several Taricha DOR last week after the rains, and also one DOR Ambystoma tigrinum by the Tulameitos Ranch (they are known to have bred there regularly in the past). No Ambystoma were found on the road last night; might they have already made their move to Blongue's pond if that is indeed where they are going? One Rana aurora was found 2.7 mi. E of the Hastings turnoff. Also the Dodecatheon clevelandii is already flowering, as well as Dentaria californica var. californica (wild marie).
