Panama - Boquete area
Hotel Fundadores elev 1600m, Boquete, Chiriquí
Province, Panama
10 August Temperature inside the log at time of collection
general
was 20.5°C. We remained at this locality for
for 3 hrs between 11 AM-2 PM before returning
to the car. Birds of note seen were a pair of
chestnut-capped brush finches & Atlapetes
brunneinucha P. Returning towards Boquete we
crossed NE on the road which passes along
the SE flank of Cerro de Piedra de Lino or
towards the N flank of the Cerro Palo Alto (via
the road running along the S bank of the Rio
Palo Alto). The road gradually worsened
until we reached an elevation of ~1500m
when we turned around because of the poor
road conditions and steady rain which was
beginning to fall. At this point the valley to the
N as well as the lower slopes of the S were are
cleared for agriculture or cattle grazing,
although the upper slopes to the S were densely
forested. Returning toward Boquete we
stopped at an elevation of about 1400m.
while Jim Lynch examined some banana
plants being used as shade trees for coffee &
and el a forested ravine leading down to the
road. No salamanders were found anywhere, including
two large bromeliads which el found on families.
