Costa Rica - Green Turtle Station:
Green Turtle Station, sea level, Tortuguero,
Limón Province, Costa Rica
28 July for a slight shower, Stephen Carr and I went
over to the forest behind the fishing camp across
the river to look for frogs. Two Leptodactylus
pentadactylus were found in front of the fishing
camp, and one Dendrobates gemilio was found
~ 4' up on a stump in the forest, but no other
frogs were found, and Ranas were found
commonly at the river edge by the GTS, the
fishing camp and along the Laguna Pentacria.
One of the latter was collected (A171) and
the heart and some blood preserved for Sue Case.
However, no breeding choruses were heard and
the low-lying areas which were found

only slightly flooded. No breeding choruses
were heard either at the "swimming pool" at
the fish camp or at the rain sink 5 of
the GTS (although a small (~2'-5') Caiman
crocodilus was found in it) at the former.
Evidently there have been only a few nights
this month when the conditions have been
conducive to frog breeding choruses.
Two more snakes were brought to my
attention on 24 July. Chuck Carr found a

"blood snake", so-called because of the
