Green Turtle Station, Sea level, Tortuguero,
Limón Province, Costa Rica
15 July bands dorsally and transverse bands on the limbs.
A dark stripe passed from the tip of the snout through
to eye to a point mid-way to the vent. The ventral
was yellowish, slightly redder on the throat.
Steve Carr found this frog ~ 5' high on a tree
trunk at the edge of the pond. No calls were
heard. (H149)
The next species was found uttering
a low-pitched stuttering call lasting ~ to less
than 1 second from water level among
scattered leaves. It measures ~4cm S-V,
with a tan dorsum with two irregular broken,
dark bands, and transverse bands on
the limbs. The white ventral had a reticulate
pattern of brown appearing almost granular.
(H14768)
The last species was found calling from a height
of ~ 4' from the banks in leaves over the water.
The call was a high pitched slow trill lasting
only a fraction ~ 1 second. Both individuals
captured were ~2cm S-V with pale dorsum
and yellowish-orange venters.
Another call, a high pitched chirp, was heard
from high in the coconut palms, but no
individuals were seen. This is the commonest
call heard at the GTS. In addition, one Iguana
iguana ~13cm S-V was found resting in brush
above water.
