Green Turtle Station sea level, Tortuguero,
Limón Province, Costa Rica
9 July Left NYC by plane 1 July and arrived
San José via Miami and Grand Cayman Is.
that night. Stayed overnight in S at the
Tela Inn where I looked up with Chuck
Carr and Kathy Landauer who had come up
from Tortuguero to renew visas. We remained
in San José until the 4 July buying supplies
(I also obtained a collection permit from
the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería).
We flew to Limón the next morning, 4 July, and took
a boat up to Tortuguero the following morning
(5 July). The beginning of the regular turtle
tagging program still awaits arrival of
Steven Carr from Florida who is bringing
more gear and another tagger. This week I've
been busy with maintenance work around
the camp station getting things in working
order. Also, with the help of Reto Martiney
and Alonso Rankin did egg collecting
(see add) for Bill Vaneyn. Hopefully we
can finish this week so that tagging begins.
The only potentially difficult task will
be obtaining the samples of blood serum.
The villagers are taking ~3 turtles/week
but it is next to impossible to find out, in
