Mexico Trip
10 May
Arose at ~ 0630 hrs. and left soon
after. Continuing W on route 60, we headed N
on Mex 57 at San Roberto and continued
on this road to our border crossing at Pedras
Negras at ~ 3 PM. Drove essentially straight
thru stopping only for gas, etc, and @ to pick
up a DOR Rhinoclemys lescoutei (SSS #)
along Mex Hwy 57, 0.8 mi. S Acatita access
road, Coahuila. The border crossing was of
little trouble: the officials cared less about
permits for our specimens than about the
possibility of our having marijuana.
From Eagle Pass Texas we headed N on US Hwy
277 to Del Rio and then switched to (ST #1/25)
Texas Hwy 90N. One Rhynoclemys cornutum was
found active along the highway just N of
Eagle Pass at the jct of Texas farm road 1588
& US 277. We drove the road N of Del Rio
just after sunset and had an opportunity
to do some night driving. Rains had finally
fallen the previous night: no rain fell exactly
in Del Rio, but points 125 mi. N had 5"
the previous night. Standing water was
evident alongside the road and we were later
to find small pools etc near the road with
calling frogs. Between [illegible]
