Mexico trip: Puerto de la Zorro -> Cd. Valles
10 May
1100 hrs rescuing a coral snake (Micrurus). However,
(cort'd) it appears as though it may be another specimen
of the coral-mimic found earlier on the
trip, Lampropeltis triangulum.
N of the town of Tamazunchale we
stopped several times to look for Anelytropsis
Orange groves in particular were sought
because they comprise a good
deal of the few habitats which seemingly
have a sufficient quantity of leaf
litter. However, no Anelytropsis
were found, including a stop at a reported
former locality 14.2 mile N of Tamazunchale
(now occupied by orange groves. An
additional stop at 0.1 Mi. S of El Hamel,
San Luis Potosi, on Mex Hwy 85 to investigate
a large stand of tropical deciduous forest
with abundant, thick leaf litter and
fallen, even somewhat moist logs beside
a small stream failed to produce any
Anelytropsis, although Sam did collect
two Anolis sp.
Tonight at the Hotel Valles Sam collected
15 more Gehyra mutilatus from walls &
ceilings of the hotel building, making
this the best locality for the trip this far.
