Mexico trip: Puerto de la Zorra -> Cd. Vallés
6 May
1100 hrs running to the nearest crevice at your one
(cont'd) slight approach. Brightly colored blue &
green ♂s, often over 12" in length were
seen, but none collected. I also have little
in collecting any, having caught 2 ♀'s, one
on a rock outcrop, the other on the trunk of
a standing oak. Color descriptions follow:
- ♀#1 - 7.2cm s-v, 18.5 cm s-t; ventral pale;
head dark extending back to neckal ring,
edged posteriorly with a white ring; 5
transverse rows of light spots on head, 1-5
spots/row; dorsal scales coppery, anterior
edges black; mid-dorsal scales
iridescent green, extending onto tail
and legs
- ♀#2 - 7.7cm s-v, 17.4 cm. s-t; head
pattern same as #1; dorsum posterior to
neck ring a mottling of bronze, black, &
tan
From Puerto de la Zorra we headed N
on Mex Hwy 85 towards our eventual return
to Cd. Vallés, San Luis Potosí and the Hotel
Vallés. At Carcel de la Jiriga, 0.9 mi. S
of the Hidalgo-San Luis Potosí border, we
found a snake DOR. It was ~ 20" in length
and had bright colorful transverse rings
