Mexico trip : Cd.Valles -> Puerto de la Zorro
6 May
0700hrs Left the Hotel Valles yesterday at ~9:30
and after a stop at the local ice house, continued
S on Mex Hwy 85 towards Tamazunchale.
Two Anelytropsis localities lie between Cd. Valles
and Tamazunchale and we hope to find
some likely habitat and find some. The
first stop was the Hotel Corregidora, a few km.
S. of Cd. Valles. The hotel is a broad plantation-
type estate with large main building and
several others adjoining it. Also on the grounds
are a large golf course with scattered orange
trees, and a small, few-acre section of tropical
evergreen forest (banana trees and
other lush vegetation). First we worked the
drier area alongside the road outside the hotel
property. There was abundant dry leaf litter
beneath large trees and alongside a rock fence
bordering the hotel. The leaf litter was raked then
extensively and over objects turned, but no
Anelytropsis or other geckos were found. We then
worked the small section of forest within the
hotel, checked below orange trees on the golf
course, and walked along several of the small
streams (1-2' wide which course thru the grounds.
No Anelytropsis were found, but Sam Sweet
found a Thermophis sp. next to a stream
