Mexico trip : Ahuacatlan area
4 May
(cout'd) horizontal seams visible on the walls.
et was 5-10' wide and ~20 yds deep
with a smooth floor. It was easily
traversed and salamanders were readily
found walling on the vertical
cave walls and inside the horizontal
cracks. The other connecting cave was
much narrower with steeper walls
and was less-easily traversed (the other
section had been used in past times
illegally for religious services when they had
been otherwise forbidden by law);
I did not enter it but saw did. In
addition to finding salamanders,
Allen found an individual on a
wall next to a line of eggs ~
20 eggs laying end-to-end. The
eggs were ~ 1/8" in diameter. These were
collected.
After many parting words (most not
understood) and "good-bye's" we said bid
adieu to the crowd which had gathered
and continued E out of Ahuacatlan, down
off the tall steep modulari ridge, and on to
Pindado Valley, San Luis Potosi where we
are spending the night at the Hotel Valle.
