Mtn. Chickadee
Spencer Creek, 1230m, 2 mi. N + 3 mi. E Brush Mtn., Klamath
Co., Oregon [T. 39 S, R. 6 E, SW¼ sec. 2]
6 July I was sick so paid little attention but chickadees fairly
numerous. There was some controversy between Bob &
Susan as to whether they were Mtn. or Black-capped.
7 July Controversy solved today - Bob collected 2 chickadees - they
were Mtn. Song here "normal"
Howard Prairie campground, ca. 4 mi. W Brush Mtn.,
Jackson Co. Oregon
8 July Song normal.
11 mi. S + 2 mi. W Mt. McLaughlin, 1430 m., Jackson Co., Oregon
[T. 38 S, R. 4 E, SW¼ sec. 4]
9 July Only ran into 1 family group but didn't collect any for
fear of shooting in the direction of the others out collecting.
Song normal.
Near Rye Spring, 2 mi. S + 2 mi. W Mt. McLaughlin, 1500m.
Jackson Co., Oregon [T. 36 S, R. 4 E, NE¼ sec. 28]
10 July Attracted several in different locations by imitating
Pygmy owl. Also attracted Chestnut-backed Chickadees which
seem to be living in sympathy (I saw 1 single + 1 pair
this morning as well as several Mt. Chickadees). At one
point I shot 3 chickadees within a few seconds + a few feet
of each other - /2 Mtn + 1 Chestnut-backed Chickadees)
