D.A. Good 1980 Mt. Chibsacler 1/2 mi. N+3 mi. W Eaton Pk. 1650 m., Siskiyou Co., Calif. [ T. 40N, R. 10W, SW 1/4 sec. 14 ] 28 June Chibsaclers not common here, I didn't manage to collect any though I heard a few in the distance and saw 2 too high to collect. Song here "normal" - 1 high, 2 lower + at same pitch as each other. End of T40N54, 1/2 mi. N+2 1/2 mi. W Eaton Pk., 1830 m., Siskiyou Co., Calif. [T. 40N, R. 10W, SE 1/4 sec. 14] 29 June This locality is only about 1/2 mile up slope from the last one so it is not surprising that the birds still sing a "normal" song. Bob found a nest in a fin(?) stump about 1 1/2 m. off the ground. DBH - 25 cm., diameter of hole ca. 3-4 cm. Depth of cavity - 4-5 cm. - nest chamber well back into stump. Bob cut the hole larger + reached in. There were 7 newly hatched yg. + 1 egg which it was obvious was not going to hatch. I had shot the ♀ so I left the ♂ to take care of the yg. He appeared while we were still there + was a bit taken aback by the reconstituted hole. He eventually entered however + we left him to it. Thompson Ridge, 1 mi. S+3 mi. W Pyramid Pk., 1580 m., Siskiyou Co., Calif. [T. 18N, R. 6W, NW 1/4 sec. 10] 30 June Chibsaclers quite common but quiet after early morning. Song here normal. I had one flock very excited about my Pygmy owl call but, as seems to be very common, they would not come down low enough to shoot.- Perhaps I should hide myself better.
