Mountain Chickadee
½ mi. E Anthony Pk., 1950m, Mendocino Co, Calif.
[T. 23 N, R. 4 W, SE ¼ sec. 15]
23 June Chickadees seem more common this morning
than they did last night (not surprising). Birds
continue to sing "3 blind mice," but there doesn't
seem to be a lot of singing going on -- only once in
a while do I hear a bird singing in the distance
and then sometimes the song consists of only the
first 2 notes.
I have come to the realization that chickadees are
hard to retrieve from the upper branches
of a fir tree after being shot.

24 June Arrived here ca. 1730. Though I hear a few calling
(no songs), the birds don't seem very common. This could
either be an effect of the habitat (see Journal) or the time

seem to prefer large trees, I came upon one pair in 3m.

Found a nest w/ 8 gg. in a fir (ca. 1m. DBH) - the hole
was 1.75m from the ground and the cavity was behind
a piece of bark which was easily removed by pulling. The
