the cardo (bromelid) heavily grazed, saw
spoke rabbit, a few black beetles.
Then drove to the old matedero meadow
on Pampa Huenuleo. Lots of Rattles here but
almost no droppings, also two two signs
including huge deep runways that were probably
made under the snow, and two droppings out in
under turf. Set 8 steal traps for tamar and
Streak, and 8 new Rattles cage traps and about 6.

Weather cold, mostly cloudy.
Before dark caught 2 two-two's. Heard no
singing. Camped in middle of meadow,
Checked traps at 10 P.m. (most half-full), nothing.
Oct.31 Pampa de Huenuler. Began to rain at 10:30 p.m.
checked traps at 3 a.m., rain/snow, nothing. Still
raining at 7:00 A.M. Picked up traps, more touched.
New snow on the trees up on Cerro Otto. Returned
to Barkeley 8:00 A.M. Rain rest of day, Christie
waited in afternoon,
Nov.1 Early morning sunny, then clouded over, then
rain. Went to INTA and talked with Javier Belloti,
Susan Martin, and Julietta von Thungen. Lots of talk
about how severe the winter was. 1½ m. of icy snow
at Pides; lots of dead sheep and guanacos. I wonder
about the rhinos? The grey foxes seem to have been
badly hit but not the red (what evidence?). The
