It was the 8th day of the 8th month which is quite a peaked day for me. On our very memorable 2nd trip, early at a village near the Nihua- shan, one of the fire-lased ruins of Chino. We marched the village at 5 o'clock in a field. and where an enormous temple of great size was directly beside itself along the hill. At the south the ragged peaks of its broken Mt. Dayu, rose in a maroon background against its sky. The second Mt. itself is the highest of the range of the temples at its summit is a mosque for devout pilgrims. Opposite our side was a delighted temple where on a balcony we found some beautiful and older carvings. In middle in the village was one of the most splendid temples didake me in China - it rivals the great buildings of Peking. It has been partially destroyed by the Mohammedans but its spacious courtyards, the splendid groupers & Cedars & many of the stately buildings remain.
