The morning was a wonder of brilliance:
a blue sky above, a dazzling sun and no
wind. No day could have been more perfect
for field sports. I went to eat up early
with the movie camera + & accompanied by
them, Kang & Lu Tanna. The boys were delighted
for this holiday and went off as happy as
children. My wife followed an hour later but
when we arrived at their bachelor apartment
we were told that the festivities would
take place further up; the racing at the
other sports & not begin till noon. So we
rode both for Tiffani, at 12.30 I left alone.
My wife for my. was very tired.
I found all the monkeys gathered on the
flat plain just at the base of the hill on which
our end camp had been placed. Part way up
the slope sat a row of Lamas in brilliant
yellow robes with plates and ceremonial
dishes before them. Fifty yards away, & there was
a semi circle of men dressed in even more
brilliant robes, among whom I recognized
Samma Dorjie also he was red bedecked, but what
I mentioned that I had to could hardly realize
but was the same old fellow with whom we
