When I looked again at the sheep
it lay lying down squarely in its trail
easily raising its head now then it looked
around. The hunter inspected it then
my glasses and prepared to go. Marvelled
over the ridge until well driven in its fibre
side, then hurried around to the projecting
spur at the end of which the young one was
lying.
It was: the going was very bad indeed,
Precisely as I grasped were continually
crumbling under foot and at times
we had a cling down like flies & a
sheer wall of rock with a sheer drop
of hundreds of feet below us. Twice
the dog had cautiously passed by, looked
& looked over the ridge but each time
shrunk this head I maintained he would
follow further.
At last he took a quick blink & turned
me to slide up beside them. Pushing
my rifle over the rock before me I raised
myself at tremendous rate
& head of the same a hundred fifty feet
away. Its body was behind a spur
of rock but it was looking squarely
& in a second would be off.
I was perfectly cool & remembered
first how & then at the very end
