In the central temple is the great standing
statue of Buddha. We approached it through
a side door where we were required to
remove our hats - at our right under
a pavilion-like entrance sat mini
priests clad in dirty yellow robes, beating
drums and cymbals chanting his holy
verse, as we passed into the door of the
main temple behind a picturesque
curtain of women & men, an old
paint [illegible] with a few drops of holy water from an ornate
im bottle. The people rubbed it on their
faces as they passed into the temple.
Directly in the middle of the room stand
ing in a huge lotus covered basin placed
was a colossal gilt statue of Buddha,
about 80 feet high. His hands are great

arms fingers just met across his breast.
At this side are two snake-like spirals of
brass, on other side was sun pillar,
swathed in brilliant pieces of brilliance
