when he was but near the cart, the Mongrel hobbled again on three feet. Then swinging a rope about his hind quarters he tanned him up power fully into the shafts. Trying the bridle to the cart at first he tarried him off and at last the pony took to it; playing fast and free excited demon. Then the Mongrel took of the hind hobbles, and later off of the front feet. The animal pulled fairly well for a hour let the Mongrel mount the cart. We went on for an hour more when the Mongrel rode off at some spurt far away toward the civil engineers about the road and to find a horse to perform it walked all right when it was leading him, but when he attempted to climb on the cart the little beast kicked, plunged and after ten minutes succeeded in ascending the front of the cart. The Mongrel returned at this point quite tired and the pony as he was too frightened to be of further use. We went down to the river camp beside some agerents. It was written that we would meet another horse if we were to go on in the Mongrel ride of it see what could be done
